Advicework and Casework

The Cairns Community Legal Centre Inc (the Centre) provides free legal advice and some limited casework for people who:

  •     are experiencing disadvantage;
  •     live in the geographical areas serviced by the Centre; and
  •     have a problem the Centre can deal with.


The General Legal Service

The General Legal Service provides legal work in the areas of family law, domestic and family violence, peace and good behaviour orders, employment law, discrimination, guardianship, administration and other mental health legal matters, motor vehicle damage, traffic matters, criminal law.  Or need help with other legal matters? The General Legal Service provides legal advice work to disadvantaged members of the community in Far North Queensland.

Free legal advice is provided by appointment. Where necessary, by reason of distance or otherwise, telephone advice may be provided.

Disability Discrimination Legal Service (DDLS)

The DDLS provides legal work for people who have been treated unfairly beacuse of their disability.  The DDLS is also available to the families, carers or associates, of people with a disability, where appropriate.

The DDLS provides advice work to people with a disability in North Queensland.  People who live or work outside of these areas may be serviced at the discretion of the Centre.

Seniors Legal and Support Service (SLASS)


The SLASS provides legal work and support services for seniors concerned about elder abuse, mistreatment or financial exploitation.

The SLASS is available to seniors, their carers (or service workers) within an hours’ drive of Cairns. Seniors who live outside of this area may be serviced at the discretion of the Centre.

Free legal advice is provided by appointment. Where necessary, by reason of distance or otherwise, telephone advice may be provided.

Family Law Service (FLS)

The FLS provides legal work in relation to family law children’s matters including where the children now live, who the children will spend with and when, schooling and other children’s issues, relocation, recovery, breaches of court orders, change of child’s name, child support enquiries and other family law children’s matters.

The FLS provides legal advice work to disadvantaged members of the community in Far North Queensland.

Free legal advice is provided by appointment. Where necessary, by reason of distance or otherwise, telephone advice may be provided.

Consumer Law Service (CLS)

The CLS provides legal work to consumers in relation to consumer credit, consumer product disputes, consumer service disputes, consumer debt matters, bankruptcy and other consumer law matters. Matters may involve insurance companies, brokers, banks or other financial institutions, superannuation trustees, tele-communication providers, second hand car or other dealers, sellers of other consumer goods and services.

The CLS provides legal advice work to disadvantaged members of the community in Far North Queensland.
